Mélina Kanaan received her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Ottawa in 2020.
Following her Master’s degree, Mélina gained clinical experience with an international employee assistance program (Workplace Options), where she worked with populations in distress and crisis. She currently works at McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences as a Wellness Consultant, providing support to students experiencing a variety of personal, relational and academic issues.
Since the beginning of her career, Mélina has dealt with issues related to anxiety, depression, burnout, suicidal ideation, trauma, bereavement, self-esteem and self-confidence, existential crises, life transitions, various abuse situations and relationship difficulties. Mélina has experience working with clients from a variety of cultural, racial, sexual and religious backgrounds, and is committed to intervening with great sensitivity.
In her interventions, Mélina uses a variety of approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotional Focused Therapy and the Humanistic-Existential approach.
She values the therapeutic relationship with her client during the sessions. She aims to provide an empathetic, caring and non-judgmental environment that is confidential and safe, in order to foster a climate of trust and collaboration. She is committed to respecting each client’s pace during the therapeutic process.
Mélina is completing her internship in psychotherapy at the Change Clinic as part of the process of obtaining her psychotherapist’s license. Mélina offers medium and long-term individual therapy services to children, adolescents and young adults under the supervision of Dr. Mélanie Laberge.
